Woman Shoots Husband In The Leg To Stop Beating
Summerville, SC – A 33-year-old father from the Summerville area was arrested Monday night on charges that he used a belt to beat his wife, who then shot him in self-defense as their children watched, according to an incident report.
Christopher Floyd Brown faces one count of criminal domestic violence and remained Tuesday at Medical University Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
His wife, Alisha Dawn Brown, told deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office that she has been married to Brown for 13 years, but had been going through relationship struggles for “quite some time,” according to an incident report.
He had moved out of their Wise Road home a year ago, but came back occasionally to visit, the report said.
Around 6 p.m. Monday, Christopher Brown arrived and started arguing with his wife, who was mowing the lawn.
Alisha Brown told deputies that he said, “I want to push you and the lawn mower over backwards,” according to the report.
The 31-year-old mother went inside to be with her three children, where she thought her husband would be “less likely to become more aggressive,” the report said.
But inside, she said her husband shoved her and threatened to spank some of the children, ages 15, 14 and 8.
When Alisha Brown objected to her husband’s name-calling, she told deputies that he grabbed a belt and started hitting her back, arms and legs as she sat on the couch.
She said she then went into a bedroom, retrieved a revolver and fired a warning shot into the floor. When she said her husband became “enraged” and came after her again, she shot his leg….
