Seattle police are investigating the alleged rape Tuesday of a 34-year-old woman at a nursing home and rehabilitation center.
Police said no arrests have been made but officials with Seattle Medical and Rehabilitation Center have temporarily suspended one employee during the investigation, according to Dr. Melody Chatelle, a spokeswoman for the facility.
Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson said officers were called to the rehabilitation center Tuesday to investigate an allegation of rape of a patient by an employee. According to Chatelle, police were called by officials at the facility.
A relative of the 34-year-old patient told KING-TV that the patient suffers from Machado-Joseph disease, a degenerative genetic disorder that can lead to physical paralysis while intellectual functions remain vital.
The patient conveyed to family members that she had been sexually assaulted by an employee, according to KING-TV.
“Upon being notified of an allegation of improper contact between a staff member and resident, we immediately notified the appropriate authorities, temporarily suspended the staff member involved and commenced our own internal investigation,” Chatelle said.
