According to Kissimmee police, the woman was smoking a cigarette outside her apartment in the Chelsea Square complex, located on Columbia Avenue, just before 1 a.m. Thursday when she heard a noise from the front window of the apartment.
The woman investigated the noise and saw an unidentified man trying to break into her home, police said. The woman yelled at the suspect and said she was going to call the police, and as she turned to walk toward the apartment, he pulled her down and attempted to sexually assault her, police said.
“But before I could get the door open he came up from behind me, grabbed me by the head and yanked me down to the ground,” the woman said.
The woman kneed the man in his groin and was able to escape, Kissimmee police said. The man fled as the woman called police. The woman told police the man was intoxicated.
The woman said the man was wearing headphones when he attacked her and she tried to use them to protect herself.
“I was going to tie them around his neck, but they fell, so I just hurried up and kneed him between his legs because he still had his pants down,” she said.
The woman’s 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old niece were asleep in the room of the apartment to which the man was trying to gain access, police said.
Kissimmee police released a composite sketch of the assailant, who was described as a Hispanic man about 20 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds. He has black spiky hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a dragon logo across the front, black baggy pants and black sneakers. He was also wearing headphones and diamond stud earrings.
“I’ve been seeing his face every time I close my eyes,” the woman said. “It just freaks me out and and I wake right back up.”
She wants to warn other women in the area to be cautious.
“You need to be careful and lock your windows,” she said.
Anyone with information about the man is urged to call the Kissimmee Police Department or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
