Teen Girl Tied Up And Raped Inside Her Home
Neighbors on alert after teen girl raped in west Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC – Police are still looking for the man who tied up and forcibly raped a teen girl inside her west Charlotte home Monday morning.
Neighbors have been on alert ever since. Police say the assault happened around 9:30 a.m. at a home on Edgewood Road off Freedom Drive.
The 19-year-old girl told police the suspect entered her home and came upstairs to her bedroom.
The suspect tied the victim up and sexually assaulted her. The girl told police she did not know the suspect who left the house following the attack.
Terry Jacobs lives a few doors down.
“That kind of hits right here at my home and that kind of makes me skittish about my family being here by themselves,” he said. “What trips me out it’s in broad daylight! And, somebody around here has got to be seeing something.”
Jacobs believes more police presence is the key and told WBTV, “If they had patrols coming in here more often, something like this would have been prevented.”
But others neighbors like Randy Hensley say they see plenty of police and while the area sees its fair share of crime, it’s never anything violent.
“It’s the first time that I know of that anything like that happened around here,” he said.
His girlfriend, Pat Rader, agreed and said, “I didn’t sleep very well last night.”
Regardless of police patrols, the couple say they do have their own protection and won’t hesitate to use it if forced to.
“We are armed,” said Rader. “So, I don’t want to shoot anybody [but] if it’s going my life or theirs, I’m gonna protect myself.”
Police say the teen suffered minor injuries and was treated at Presbyterian Hospital.
